Moved within TX, kept original home – homestead exemption question
Happy new year everyone!
I had a question regarding homestead exemption. I recently moved within the state but kept the old house as a rental. I know that you can only have homestead on one home (your primary one), so I was planning to file for homestead for our new home now that it's 2024. Will the homestead on the old home automatically get removed because I can only have one property with exemption, or do i need to file to remove homestead on the other also?
My understanding is that my property tax bill and appraisals for both properties are already set in stone for the bills that are now due (by 1/31), so the new exemption and getting rid of the old one will only apply to next year's due taxes, correct?
