Tired of us never winning more than one playoff game? I think this is the year to pray for our offense.
Dear Football Gods, I just wrote this and I really hope Will Fuller is healthy…
I feel like when our offense is clicking, we don’t need an elite defense performance. We just need the defense to not break. Yes, this is subjective. Yes, there will probably be times when our defense needs to be great while we wait on our offense to wake up. Yes we can break down our results in other ways such as quality defensive performances, when our offensive line was healthy and had time to gel, when Will Fuller is healthy versus when he’s not, when we didn’t have to hold our breath when Fairbairn kicks, how BoB called a game, how Romeo called a game, etc.
But if I HAD to pick between offense, defense, or special teams, then I believe based off of 2019’s results that our offense is more important to our success in January.
In my observations, these were games where for a good portion of the game our offense looked like they belonged on a professional football team:
(L) @ NO
(W) @ LAC
(W) vs. ATL
(W) @ KC
(W) vs. OAK
(W) @ JAX
(W) vs. NE
(W) @ TEN
You bet I believe our loss on New Orleans falls on bad defensive calls in the fourth quarter after our offense played their hearts out.
These were games where I thought (and a good amount of people in the game threads thought) our offense sputtered for a decent chunk of the game, where there felt like hundreds of “fire BoB” comments:
(W) vs. JAX
(L) vs. CAR
(L) @ IND
(L) @ BAL
(W) vs. IND
(L) vs. DEN
(W) @ TB
No, I didn’t make time to research objective data, but I’m sure most of us have watched every game and know that this offense’s potential seems to hinge a few things, like Watson’s clock, our offensive line, Will Fuller’s health and his ability to open the offense up for everyone. Wait…did this just become a Will Fuller appreciation thread?
