CJ Stroud – Patreon QB School

[JT's sentiment]: Most rookie-ish game. Felt like a regression to the mean with all his misses.

– CJ didn't play as well as his other games. Stroud missed 2 TD throws that if were just a bit better would have scored. Beck's slight overthrow. Throw to Nico in the corner that was slightly high.

– 2nd quarter drive, turned down Nico on a post route for a dump off.

– Missed Noah Brown on a post that would have been a TD, because CJ left the pocket early and started to run it.

– Missed TD to Metchie. Could have expected Metchie to run it more vertical, but also probably his worst throw all year.

– Chose not to throw to Woods in the endzone with coverage given, despite throwing that particular ball in the past.

Not as much anticipation or a bit late on a couple of throws.

That said, fluid motion, still had great plays. Made good decisions when not supposed to throw to a receiver.

Doesn't understand the blocking on runs. Missed chips, double teams.

[My own thoughts]: Feels like we ran a lot, especially in the 1st.

I don't know if it's even a thought since the plays were power run, but looks like prime Arian Foster cutback lanes on a good chunk of them. Singletary hit a decent run in the 2nd qtr hitting the cutback.

Is trust with the receiver's maybe a reason he didn't throw some of the balls? I think if it was Tank on some of these routes, he would've thrown the ball.

Looks like Stroud has been trying to run into an open run lane more instead of trying for the deep ball. Might be the product of the previous games where it was short yardage and he was throwing deep. This is the issue of finding the balance between not wanting to do too much and trying to take the easy yards.
