Seeking Advice for an Unsettling Uber Incident
Hi Reddit,
I'm seeking advice for a troubling incident involving my friend, an Uber driver. While parked and waiting for a ride, her car was hit on the side by a drunk driver. The situation escalated when the driver, accompanied by a group of intoxicated friends (about 15-20 people), became confrontational.
Here's a brief rundown:
- The drunk driver attempted to punch her, and while some friends tried to intervene, others joined in, creating a threatening situation.
- They refused to provide license and insurance information but instead offered her $300 through CashApp. Fortunately, she managed to take a picture of the offender's license plate. She also obtained the offender's phone number, confirmed by calling him.
- One of the drunk drivers friends intentionally backed into her car causing no visible damage. She was able to take a picture of this car's license plate as well.
- Feeling intimidated, she left the scene and later met with a police officer.
The police officer claimed that because they paid her through CashApp, there was nothing more they could do. Now she's received a $2,000 estimate from a body shop, and we're unsure about her options.
Questions:
- Is it true that the CashApp payment makes it difficult to pursue legal action?
- How should she proceed to ensure the responsible party covers the damages?
- Are there any other steps or legal avenues she should explore?
Your insights and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
