A Question for One of the Nation’s Largest and Most Important Cities
So, as we know, Houston gets compared a lot with cities like Atlanta or Dallas when Houston — given the fact that it dwarfs the likes of Atlanta and Dallas — really has more in common with New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
It's a huge and diverse city with a lot going for it. But it does lag behind the three big cities in many areas.
I feel like part of it is a matter of recognition. Chicago has always been known for its cuisine and crime rates. LA for entertainment, particularly in the industries of film and television. NYC is basically the capital of the Western world. Houston is a working man's city, a post-industrial powerhouse…but that's pretty unglamorous in terms of the wider cultural zeitgeist.
So, I wanted to ask Reddit what they think the city of Houston (and its surrounding suburbs) needs to really be on that CHI or LA level.
