Do the police still check out something if I choose to remain anonymous?

I called a dispatcher and he said I had to give a phone number to talk to a police officer about something but I said i didnt want to talk to a cop but report it for someone to check out. I preferred to be anonymous and he said they’ll just record the call but won’t make a report of it? Is this the case with you guys or what?

The dispatcher was really cool about it and told me to stay calm and just tell him what happened to take note. Which I really liked. What would happen next?
