Camping in early February?

My wife and I are fairly new to Houston area. We finally have an opportunity to go away for the first time for 24 hours in the first week of February while my sister watches the kiddos. Instead of classic getting a hotel and doing museums or other local attractions, my wife really wants to go camping and hiking. I have been looking at Galveston State Park and reserved a slot. But now we have regrets as we keep hearing that its going to be too cold that time of the year. Would it be feasible? Would anyone have other suggestions to spend 24 hours in the area?
