My first season as an Astro’s Fan: A retrospective

At the start of the year, I hadn't watched a single game of baseball in my life. Coming from Australia, the sport just isn't that big here. I was lucky enough to get sent to Houston as part of a work trip (teacher taking students to Space Camp, Space Centre Houston, etc). Part of the trip was watching a game of baseball live, on the 4th of July no less. I decided if I was going to go, I may as well learn the rules and pick a team. Here's where I made my first mistake, I posted in /r/mbl (never again)

Deciding to root, root, root for the home team, I got myself a little bit of Astro's swag and started watching Baseball when I got a chance. Having picked Astros, I posted here a few times with questions, and everybody was fantastic; helping explain the game, pointing me to good movies to watch and YouTube clips to check out (Thanks to whoever first recommended me The Sandlot, might just become a 4th July tradition for me). Great fanbase, really enjoyed it here.

Getting to my first game, watching us take it to the Rockies in a low scoring game (despite missing seeing Altuve play because he was pulled 90 min before the game), was one of the highlights of my trip to the USA. The atmosphere at the game was fantastic, people were all happy to talk and explain even more to me as we went (ooo, so THATS what RBI stands for? Thanks, Mick in section 420 for explaining that one).

Getting to the post-season, and despite losing to the rags (FTR) I've enjoyed every moment of the game. I am absolutely a convert now, and an Astro for life.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
