Not only did we already match last years win total, I think we already matched our "meaningful" win total from the last 3 years
So for obvious reasons a lot has been made of the fact that we just matched our regular season win total from last year, in week 6. But I think it goes deeper than that. Some depressing facts in here but I'm choosing to look at it in a positive light
Everyone knows these last 3 years have been misery for Houston football fans, we've won 11 games total and won only 4 home games. But even worse (in my opinion) is the complete lack of meaningful wins, by which I mean games where we had even a hope at making the playoffs.
In 2020 we won our first game in week 5 after starting 0-4. I'll be nice and call this a meaningful win but honestly an 0-4 start is pretty much a death sentence. Only 1 team has ever made the playoffs after starting 0-4 and that was in 1992. We went on to lose the next 2 games to fall to 1-6 and while we got 3 more wins that season the playoff dream was already dead and buried by then. We'll call that one meaningful win even though that is a stretch.
In 2021 we won the opening week against Jacksonville which was a decently hopeful start. We did not win again until week 11. We scraped together 4 wins that season but only one meaningful win.
In 2022 we started off 0-3-1 before winning an ugly one against Jacksonville. Again a stretch to call this a meaningful win (especially given how ugly the game was) but I'll be nice again and call it meaningful. We did not win again until week 16. We only scraped together 3 wins last year including a win that actually made people mad!
This year after starting 0-2 we have won 3 of our last 4 meaning we have already racked up 3 meaningful wins this year matching our total from the last 3 years.
Even if we don't end up making the playoffs this year it's still a fun day to be a Texans fan for the first time in a while
Also funny note in each of our last 4 seasons our 1st win came against the Jaguars
