Question for Houston-area teachers
Are any of your districts actually hiring for online only? I heard through a friend-of-a-friend about a Katy ISD job lead that was for 4th grade and online only, but when I checked their website, everything is listed as it would be under normal circumstances. I checked HISD, SBISD, and Cy-Fair as well and it doesn’t look like they’re advertising online-only either, yet teacher friends are saying districts are desperate and these kinds of positions are definitely a thing.
I taught elementary for one year and secondary for three, and am now working in an entry-level healthcare role. Wasn’t really looking to get back into education as I’m applying to full-time graduate mental health counseling programs and I already know what the teacher work-life balance is like, but have been considering going back for a year or two depending on the position. I’ve been keeping a pretty close eye on listings the past month or so and on the ongoing battle with TEA/superintendents, and I was wondering if these fabled positions actually exist, or if it’s just talk to get people to feel safe about applying. I figured a lot more would start opening up once school starts and districts end up short-handed. Also, what are everyone’s experiences like so far?
