Anyone experienced this with electric company switch?

So I had an electric company whose service ended August 10th. My new company was to start on August 11th. I received several email confirmations from my company that my service was beginning. I never went a day with out power. However, months later I never got a bill. Apparently my service with them never started, and they aren’t the ones providing me with electric. I call my previous provider, they claim they are no longer providing me with electric either. Each company says they are not my provider, but I’m literally getting power at my apartment. Wtf is going on?

TLDR: Getting free electric but scared that it’s actually a bunch of late fees.
