Visiting Houston – options for paying tolls on the roads

I will be visiting Houston in a couple weeks and I have arranged for a rental car. Is their a way for me to pay the road tolls without having to pay the rental car company $25/day for using their EZpass in the rental vehicle. Ten years ago I went to Boston and just paid cash but online it looks like the places you pay cash have been replaced with paying online.
