Caserio’s drafting so far is terrible, why does he have so many stans in this fanbase?

I see Caserio has a lot of support on here and frankly I’m not 100% sure why. Drafting is probably the most important part of a GM’s job so wanted to take a quick look at all of his draft picks 4th round and above

2021:

No first or second rounders

Davis Mills 3rd round: Not the worst pick but let’s face it 3rd round QB’s rarely amount to much. I would have preferred to take a stab at a position where you’re more likely to find a quality starter.

Nico Collins: Big Nico Collins stan here I like this pick and it looks like the production is finally showing up for him. However this is still a borderline TBD for me until we see it just a little more

Brevin Jordan: 4th rounder, doesn’t look like much here calling it a bust

2022:

Derek Stingley 3rd overall: Look to start I think Stingley is a really good player and I don’t dislike the pick based on performance off the field. But Stingley was a walking injury red flag out of college which we promptly ignored and it’s shown itself. This one is right on the border between TBD and bust but I to lean towards bust here. This will make 4 years in a row where the guy can’t stay on the field, why in the world should we believe he can do it in the future?

Green 1st: Worst pick of Caserio’s tenure. Had injury red flags in college and has also been terrible on the field. Bust

Pitre 2nd rounder: Great pick W for Caserio

Metchie: Obviously cancer isn’t Caserio’s fault in any way. As a side note however I will say this is also an injury red flag player with an ACL injury in college. We ignored that flag and he has already missed time with a hamstring injury. Not calling this pick anything however this is another footnote in a disturbing trend.

Christian Harris 3rd rounder: The dude was not very good on the field last year and hasn’t really improved thus far this year. Not calling it a bust because he’s a third rounder but it’s starting to lean that way if we don’t see improvement by the end of this season.

Dameon Pierce 4th rounder: Great pick Pierce is an above average starter I believe, just a solid pick especially for a 4th rounder.

For 2023 it’s too early to make any judgements but I will say a few things

First off Tank, Anderson, and Stroud all look good thus far to me there’s no denying that. However like I said way too early to be singing Caserio’s praises here two games in. Sure Will Anderson looks good but is this what we have to do to get good drafting from Caserio? Drastically overpay to trade up for a guy? Doesn’t really add any confidence in his scouting abilities if this is what it takes to hit on a first rounder.

Anyways by my count Caserio has made 9 picks in the 1st-4th round thus far (excluding the most recent draft) and I’m seeing 2 players that are able to stay on the field and perform consistently on said field. Bump it up to 3 if Collins keeps playing like this. Regardless 3 contributors is not good enough especially considering how high several of those picks were. With those kind of resources available I’d expect a star player or two as well as 3-4 more contributors on top of that.

Maybe this 2023 draft can save Caserio, that possibility should certainly be revisited by the end of the year but his 2022 draft results as well as his complete inability to put together a team that can win games even outside of the draft means that I think we should be done with Caserio after this year, hes just not done a very good job.
