Ideas to protect Texas Wildlife?

I live near a large 50+ acre plot where a development is going. It is well known that many protected species of hawks and owls live on this plot, along with live oaks and pines. I'm sure there are probably even more native species on this piece of land that I'm unaware of. A large developer is looking to flatten the land and build apartments. I reached out to Texas Wildlife and asked if they would do an assessment, but they said the developer has to request it. Is there anything else I can do to ensure some of their habitats aren't completely demolished ? I understand that they want to build on the land, but I was hoping we could at least protect some of the 100+ year old trees at least. If anyone has any insight or ideas, I am open to trying it.
