Tips for out of town visitor flying into Houston?

I’m flying into Houston into IAH next week. I’m meeting up with a friend at IAH. We’re staying in Clear Lake by the Space Center.

We’re going to do all the hotspots according to the internet; zoo, fine arts, space center, natural science, menil, Hermann park, moody gardens/beach day in Galveston, galleria, kemah, cidercade

Any tips for any of these locations? Or just visiting Houston in general? Safety precautions, nightlife, traffic, etc.? Or any more locations we should hit? We’re there for 6 days.
