Help with a Stray when Shelters Won’t do Intake

Welp. Did something naive today. A skinny pit mix showed up on my front door and my husband gave her some water and a break from the heat in our laundry room….And now what?

We can’t take a third dog; BARC, SPCA, Humane Society, and Harris County Animal Shelter are not doing intake, husband emailed or called 25 shelters and no dice.

We are willing to take care of this dog’s medical bills and even board her long term until a foster can be found. Are y’all aware of any rescues that would be open to that kind of arrangement? Would also be willing to sponsor/coordinate a transport if a shelter elsewhere could take her, if yall know of anything like that.

For what it’s worth she’s very sweet and affectionate and gets along with our dogs. About 35 lbs but very underweight and obviously gave birth recently. Beautiful brown and white coloring and brown eyes.

Any advice appreciated. Couldn’t stand to watch her die in the heat.

UPDATE: By some miracle I refreshed BARC at the right time and was able to get an intake appt. for Sept 6.

Also brought her to the vet and got her heart worm medications, flea meds and all her shots. The vet said she must have just given birth because she still has discharge. 😭 I looked around the neighborhood for her puppies but my husband thinks she was likely bred for the puppies and dumped.

I know a rescue group would be more ideal, so I am going to keep contacting y’all’s suggestions in the meantime. But at least now she has somewhere to go where she’s got a shot. Thanks for all of your help.
