Regarding the news in Beirut, I’m taking a moment to remember the Texas City Disaster. In 1947, a freighter carrying 2300 tons of ammonium nitrate (vs 2700 yesterday) exploded, setting off a chain reaction that killed 581 people. It was at the time the deadliest industrial disaster in US history.
