Amazon’s "Just Walk Out" store at MMP–Incorrect charge impossible to correct

Just a caution about doing business with Amazon's "Just Walk Out" (JWO) concession store at Minute Maid Park: Just Stay Out–there's apparently no way to redress an incorrect charge except by getting your credit card company to write off the charge.

I was charged for 2 identical items at when I'd purchased only 1. I got nothing but the runaround from JWO, Aramark and Amazon. My email receipt provided an Aramark contact email address, but no phone number. I emailed Aramark the details the day after the incorrect charge hit my American Express card. I asked them to review the store video or to have Amazon do so, whichever applied. (This is how they determine what you took off the shelf and what you put back; if they get this wrong, you're over/under-charged.) After 3 weeks of no response, I contacted the JWO phone number provided on my American Express transaction summary. Well, turns out that number is just Amazon's corporate headquarters switchboard. (Commence runaround #2.) I then went to the JWO website and learned that disputed charges have to be addressed by the local JWO store, so I have to go back to MMP & Aramark to get my refund. Enough already! JWO's/Aramark's processes don't provide a reasonable means for correcting charges.

So, I contacted American Express to contest the charge. Since I had a witness to the transaction, and perhaps because of the small amount at issue (~$10), Amex is going to write off the charge for the 2nd item and credit my account. While this keeps me whole economically, it's not a satisfactory response vis-a-vis *anyone* and JWO. Amex's absorbing the charge just gets baked into their next round of annual fee calculations, so consumers end up paying for JWO's mistake anyway. I'll never shop at any JWO again. (This was my first and last time.)
