Storage unit of 10+ years was auctioned off without any payment recourse

We had a storage unit for 10+ years that we consistently paid around 500$ for every months. Long story short, my father, who used to take care of the payment, found himself unable to continue. My mom took over, and while she paid, she would often forget to check the website and let our unit go into “auction status” several times. I would take over and call the company in order to pay directly. The manager there would take our card details and that was that.

Except, this happened once more in the beginning of August 2022. As I intervened and called to pay, the person on the other side of the line rebuffed me, would tell me the manager wasn’t available and would call back soon. I have timestamps. We never got a call back.

From then, I called around a dozen time looking to pay, and everytime I would get the same speech of, “we’ll call you back, you can’t pay now”. Until I called again and they told me they had auctioned off everything.

Is there anything we can do? Let’s even forget the monetary value of our stuff for a moment. We had a LOT of sentimental pictures, objects, and heirlooms that mean a lot to my family. Obviously the manager doesn’t want to tell me the name of the person who bought everything and we’re devastated.

All of my grandfather’s pictures are gone, all of my mother’s baby pictures, some old cameras, a lot of small trinkets, etc etc…

The unit was auctioned off in September 2022.

Thank you very much!
