Property Tax Protest – HCAD Knows the Sale Price?!?
Has anyone else hit a brick wall if you recently purchased a home and you are protesting your property taxes?
I attempted to show evidence of my home needing work to the HCAD representative and they decided to ignore it and stick with their appraisal because they know what the home sold for. I even showed them quotes for a roof and an AC system. I thought Texas was a non-disclosure state?
Apparently, the 10% Homestead Exemption property value cap does not take effect until after you've lived in the home for ~2 years meaning I am stuck with whatever value they give the house until next year's appraisal. They increased the appraisal of my home by 30% in 2022 and 19% in 2023. WTF!
