Anyone have a whole house gas generator? I just got a quote for one and i am considering it with how bad centerpoint are. Wondering what the cons of it may be (other than the cost).

Hey guys,

so after the big freeze a few years ago i was considering a proper gas generator for my house, now with everytime it gets a little warm and recieving messages saying that i need to watch my usage because the grid is ancient and the state refuses to invest in it.

Im wondering if i this generator is a good idea?

I work from home and last year a transformer blew and we were without electricity for a day during the heat. Which also sucked.

Living in a state where electricity can mean life or death, and having an electricity provider such as ERCOT and Centerpoint who couldnt give two shits about investing in a robust infrastructure that can handle texas weather to save peoples lives – im starting to think it may be a good investment?

for me, it would cost $12k, and they tell me the generator connects to my gas line and when the power goes out it will kick on and my house will be as if i had mains power. Everything will work, AC, computers, TVs, everything.

Does anyone know if im missing any downside to this option, other than the initial investment?
