Can you go to any tax assessor office to get a new registration sticker?

I am originally from Dallas, but I moved out of state.

I’m not trying to change my registration on my car just yet because I have customized plates

The closest city to me in Texas is Houston. can I go to the tax assessor office there to get a new sticker? Or do I have to go all the way back to Dallas?
