If you were single and could work remotely anywhere in Houston (or even Texas) where would you go to to save money?

Hey, all. I came to Houston some time ago because the lack of income tax and lower cost of living was hard to beat. Pretty underrated city compared to the cost. Currently stay in midtown without a car but thinking of heading to the burbs at renewal to save more money and also get a car without having to increase my budget.

I could afford to stay where am if it were worth it but l'm mid 30's, no commute, and I don't go out enough to justify paying extra to stay in the middle of everything. If I could get my $1800(including parking) rent down to $1200 staying in the burbs then that would be a win in my book. Especially with potentially more layoffs looming.

Currently thinking about going towards Sugarland or Katy but curious where some of you guys would go if you were in a similar situation.
