Why is it so cheap to live in the Houston area compared to other places?

I recently went full time remote at my job which has opened the door to relocating.

In doing my research the Houston area seems too be good to be true cheap compared to other large metros.

I've never been to TX let alone Houston. I know it's hot and humid and since you're close to the gulf hurricanes might be an issue.

But seriously, whats the deal? Looks like you have some decent new built and nice Apts and homes down there at too good to be true prices. Whats the catch?
