landlords and water utilities- when we are only given an amount to pay without anything else, how are we to know they aren’t inflating water prices?
Can a landlord charge you for water utilities that are allocated based on one meter of the entire property and not show you how this is calculated or previous water bills?
Shady new mgmt came in and upon resigning, had us start paying for water utilities which initially were included in rent. Fine. However, I got a much larger bill than what i have payed for water in the past, and noticed that my water bill only shows the amount I need to pay. In my lease, it mentions that it is calculated by the landlord based on occupancy and usage of the entire community dwelling, with adjustments taken out for lawn and community maintenance etc.
Am I allowed to see the master bill, or at least see how they calculated this amount? I ask, because this same mgmt company was fraudulently charging tenants for $25/mth for parking spots the city owned, not them. And landlords inflating water bills is sadly not unheard of. Just wondering if there is a system in place to protect tenants from this, such as receiving a copy of the meter usage or looking at previous water bills?
