Followed by White Audi, why? Didn’t seem like road rage

I was driving to breakfast with my family this morning and randomly this white Audi started following us very closely down Durham. I think it was an A5 but hard to tell all their sedans apart from just the font profile, caught a glimpse of a small black spoiler but looked fairly new. I made several lane changes and it was very obvious they were following as they stayed in my bumper every time. I slowed down to a crawl and still just stayed right behind us. I didn't cut them off and they didn't honk or anything. Eventually I made a turn into a River Oaks neighborhood and called 911. That's when they finally made a different turn and left us alone.

Frankly it was scary, especially with my family in the car. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a scam or try to follow to rob us? We didn't come from a bank and had stopped at a breakfast place that ended up being closed so decided to go somewhere else. I don't think there was any reason to follow other than picking a random car. Such a strange event and still a little shaken by it.
