Weird experience at the Candy Cane park in Conroe
We had a really, really weird experience today at a local park, where we visit often. We're still not sure what happened, and aren't accusing anyone of anything nefarious, but it just goes to show that people need to be aware of their surroundings.
We were walking our dogs in a large park when a woman approached us on the jogging track from the tennis courts, super excited and wanting to see the dogs. Neither of the dogs wanted her attention, which was weird in and of itself, but she also gave both my husband and I really weird vibes.
She kept getting in my personal space, touching me, basically hugging me and hanging on me, to an extent that was uncomfortable. We talked about how weird and uncomfortable she made us as we continued our walk.
When we went to leave, we discovered that my backpack/ purse was opened halfway. It was on my back the entire trip, and the only time it was opened was to put the car keys in it when we first got to the park, like we always do, no matter where we go. This process has worked for us on thousands of miles worth of trips.
Lo and behold, my car keys were missing. Both of us specifically knew they were there; we're both high strung and knew my husband had put them in it while I wore it, like we always do. We've never, ever lost our keys before. Luckily, our key fob had broken off THIS morning, so it was separate, so we could still unlock the truck.
We looked and looked, but the keys were gone, and no one had seen them. We called a local locksmith, and ended up waiting for a while.
It got dark, with only three other cars in the lot. A small red car with someone sitting in it on their phone was parked next to us for over 2hrs; a small civic was parked across from us, and another old 4runner was next to them.
The civic seemingly couldn't start their car, they kept 'trying' to start it; all their lights were working, and the starter was engaging, but it wouldn't start. It stopped turning over every time it got close.
The locksmith got there, and immediately the red car left, a woman got out of the pasenger seat of the civic, into the 4runner and drove off.. And the civic immediately started up, after not being able to start for over an hour, and also drove off.
We don't know what happened, but every single car in the parking lot left at the same time our mechanic started working on our 4runner, IMMEDIATELY.
We are vigilant, and rarely let people in our space. We travel often. We don't know what happened for sure, but the scenario was very, very confusing and left us feeling unsafe.
$400 later for the locksmith, but we still have our runner, and the smith actually was interested in buying one of the cats I breed. We always say, we have the best worst luck there is, the best and the worst. Something bad might happen, but it'll turn out in the best way we can, because we live a blessed life.
Maybe we're being paranoid, but we won't be allowing anyone to approach our dogs in the future, or invade our space. We'd been talking about starting to carry on a regular basis, and this has been the push we need to make that happen. If you've got a preferred EDC, let me know!
Just be aware of y'all's surroundings, and be safe!
