How do you register a Metro Q Card?

I usually keep a Qcard in my wallet for emergencies like a car breakdown or if I'm on a bike ride or long hike and something happens and I need a ride back but I worry that I might lose the card so I put a small amount on it. The card itself even says that I can register it so I don't lose the balance, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to register it. So far I've:

  • Installed the Metro App and it has no option and only has schedules and routes and does a pretty terrible job even at that. Google maps is far more useful.
  • Went to the Ridemetro.org website where I found how I could log in and reload an already registered Q-Card but no actual option on how to register the card in the first place. There is also an option to reload a non-registered card but that doesn't even show the existing balance on the card so again, it's pretty terrible.
  • Apparently, there is a Metro Q ticketing app which is different than the Metro App so I installed that and the only options on it are to buy a single ride or a local day pass – but nothing about the Q-Card registering or reloading! I mean Q is literally in the name of the app! Also, this app was buggy as hell when it wouldn't send a confirmation email and made me recover the password to get it to work.
  • Just for fun, I tried using the same user name and password I created in the above Metro Q Ticketing app in the "reload a registered Q Card" page and it wouldn't accept the credentials.

Am I missing something here? Surely it's not this hard to register a Q card. I don't ride the bus much in Houston so I can live with just keeping a small amount on the card, but I also keep an Orca card (For Seattle's public transportation) and theirs website and apps are in a completely different class.
