24 hours in Houston

hello! i'm visiting houston for a week for a wedding, but realistically will only have ONE day to explore (preferably in/near downtown.) it's a monday (i know most museums have free admission on thursday and are closed on monday) so i'm feeling a bit lost on what to do. i grew up in houston from birth to middle school, but i never visited tourist attractions/museums. i'm excited to be back in 20+ years and showing my partner around, so any advice is very much appreciated 🙂

so far i have on my list:

– hermann park (japanese garden highlight!)

– chinatown

– HMNS (is it worth $25/person + $12 each for butterfly exhibit???)

– PitRoom BBQ, Lai Lai Dumpling House, Bonchon,

– Houston Funeral Museum is pretty far from where we will be… and Contemporary Arts & MFA are closed on mondays 🙁
