What are the best ways to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches. They’re tearing my family apart!

We live in a house and we’re pretty careful and clean for the most part. We use roach poison nests indoors, but the roaches keep spawning. Twice this morning.

We have a dog roommate. So are there any pet-safe recommendations? Or is diatomaceous earth the only one?
