How does Houston compare to LA and Miami?

Hey r/Houston

I’m originally from the Midwest. I moved to California briefly in 2019 to experience life there and I enjoyed it so much. I enjoyed the culture, the vibrancy of the city, the beach, and sunny weather. However covid messed s**t up for me and I had to move home.

Fast forward to 2023, and I’m looking to make a move somewhere new and get my life on track. I’ve considered many times going back to California because I remember loving it so much, or perhaps going to Miami. But the truth is I simply can’t afford it. To live on your own you need to make like, 100k minimum and I’m not at that stage in life and don’t want roommates. I don’t wanna live with strangers.

I’m considering houston because it seems like it could be a good fit for me since like Miami and LA, it’s within an hours driving distance from the beach. It also has palm trees and Mexican culture so I feel like while it’s not one for one comparison, it’s a closer fit than any other place.

I’m looking for a place that has affordable housing, proximity to the beach, large multicultural city, feels modern, vibrant, urban, and safe with good economy. A good place to be young. Does Houston fit those boxes?
