Traffic citation for running red light

As the subject says, I got a citation for running a red light. It was early this morning and I swear I don’t remember it happening (I have never had any tickets before this). The office gave me a piece of paper and asked me to show up at the court one month from now.

What are my options here? Can I get away with it or do I plead guilty, pay the fine, and get the hit on my record/insurance? Would appreciate any help from people who have gone through this before.
