Houston day trips

Hello Houston.

Next month my wife and I will be spending a few days in your city, and we’re hoping to see a bit of Texas. Any good day trips or one night stay overs not too far from the city? Some small towns, interesting sights, places worth seeing?

We will have a rental car and also enjoy scenic or interesting drives.

Edit: Some good Houston restaurant recs wouldn’t be bad either.
