Personal Pet Peeve – I 45 HOV Lane Violations

I live north of Houston so I routinely drive on I-45 coming and going. I see people with no one else in the car driving in the HOV lane. That lane is supposed to be used by more than one person in the car, hence the name high occupancy vehicle. It's not an uncommon occurrence to see vehicles with only one occupant not only in the HOV lane but really exceeding the speed limit. At one point, when regular traffic had ground to a stop, I saw seven cars in a row with a single driver. Some drivers even cross the double white lines to jump out of that lane when it's convenient, or when the car in front of them isn't exceeding the speed limit enough for them. Since it seems our local authorities have set this as a low priority people are not getting tickets for doing that.
