Weird interaction in GWP just now

I'm on my way home. I stop at the Sunrise Super Stop at the corner of Richmond and Timmons to grab a six pack and a Topo Chico.

As I'm walking out of the store, a large black pickup pulls up right next to my car. It pulls in at an angle, so much so that my own car barely has enough room to back out.

A nicely-dressed blonde lady, perhaps late 40s to early 50s, jumps out of the truck (which she leaves running), rushes around behind my car and approaches me with a story about how she just got off work and she can't find her credit card and she needs gas and I can look at her gas gauge if I don't believe her and can I help her out (and all the while she has her hand inside her purse like she's carrying a gun or something like the woman in the movie Ms. 45).

Sunrise does not sell gas, and alarm bells are going off in my head at this point. All I want to do is get into my car and nope out of there. I tell her that I don't carry cash on me anymore and that I'm sorry I can't help her and get into my car as quickly as I can.

She says "it's fine, it's okay" in a dismissive tone and runs into the store to talk to the cashier. Her truck is still running. I carefully back out of the parking lot so as not to hit her truck and get the hell out of there.

On one hand, I wonder if I just blew off a person who was truly in distress. On the other hand, scams come in all forms in this city and this whole interaction was weird and uncomfortable.
