Hot take.

I can’t seem to understand why everyone who says yuli had such a terrible season, are the same people who say we need to lock up Pena. This isn’t me bashing Pena, but more me sticking up for yuli. I think both players had an average season. Aside from pena’s 22 hr’s, both players had some very similar statistics.

Yuli-.242 BA/.288 OBP/.360 SLG over 545 AB’s Pena-253 BA/.289 OBP/.426 SLG over 521AB’s

Yuli- 73 SO/30BB Pena-135 SO/22BB

I do understand that pena is in his first season, and is projected to be better, with yuli being “on the decline”, which is what everyone said after he sucked in 2020, then went on to win the batting title in 2021. I just can’t understand peoples line of thinking.
