Houston Food Bank up to normal operations, but hasn’t yet recouped losses from ammonia leak
When a fan in the refrigeration system broke at the Houston Food Bank, it sliced into a evaporator cell and cut a line of ammonia, spilling the chemical throughout the 20,000-square-foot refrigerated space. The food bank ended up having to throw away 1.8 million pounds, or 62 tractor trailer loads, of food in the weeks just ahead of Thanksgiving.
