Is it safe to wait for/ take the bus in upper kirby at night?

My car had to be totaled so I have no car for a few days, I am a student who works in the upper Kirby area and have been taking the bus to get to work, but I wanted to know how safe it was to wait for and ride the bus at night in that area, especially alone? Would it be safer just to get an uber?
