You should know: Linda Hidalgo & Harris County have been trying to implement a centralized towing system to eliminate all of the problems wreckers drivers cause and are having a hard time due to (surprise surprise) wrecker drivers.

Harris County had planned to pilot a program with a company called "Auto Return" that would allow police, EMT, Fire, etc to dispitach drivers via an uber style app. It would be centrally run and there would be no more racing to the scene to put chips in a hat. Wreckers under this program would be employed or contracted by Auto Return. This would be a huge win for everyone in Harris county except for crooked wrecker drivers.

Unfortunately during the hearing on this the room was flooded with angry tow truck drivers and all of the Harris county officials were basically shouted down. It was announced today that they were putting the program on hold for further review.

I haven't really seen any coverage on this beyond what is getting posted on the Grizzy's Hood news facebook page so I thought it would be worth sharing here.
