What are some good non-committal volunteer work to do on the weekends?

Does anyone have any recommendations for volunteer work around town that doesn't require a long term commitment? I'd love to get some ideas so I can help out some time in the near future.

I was looking into helping at the SPCA but I think you're required to do 8 hours total a month for 6 months.
