Does anyone here commute to Austin for work?

I used to live in Austin and have been living in Houston for 5 years for a career advancement. Well, now I was given a killer opportunity in Austin that would pay double my salary that what I’m making here in Houston.

I have a house here but I know that Austin homes are outrageous in prices. I have a friend there that lives alone and he said I could stay the evenings for hella cheap while I was there.

It would be a compressed shift, so I would be off 3-4 days a week. I would only need to make the commute to Austin once a week.

Would anyone here say that’s a terrible idea? Cons: 400+ miles a week driving. Staying at a friends house nights only.

Pros: compressed shift Double salary.

My goal would to pray that interest rates fall and the housing market at least stabilizes. I would eventually want to transition and move to Austin. Was seeing if anyone here works/commutes to Austin weekly.
