DIY Solar System Project

Can anyone please share their personal experience or guidance on a full house DIY solar system project? I've done some research and based on my math if I go with any external company I will end up paying 60% or more in profit margin and it will take me around 30 years to break even. Don't get me started trying to understand why so expensive. That being said I am inclined to go the DIY route as I can source the material and labor in a very reasonable priced way. This system is just the panels connected to the house and back into the power grid via the inverter, no batteries.

But the key to this entire DIY project to be truly successful and cost reasonable is securing the service of a qualified and experienced master licensed electrician who can supervise the job, do all the paper work and make the final connection into the inverter and the electric grid. I wonder if anyone can recommend such individual and what the price for this service will be. Below are the details related to the licensed master electrician work where he/she will need to supervise all these 5 steps and do some of the work in these steps as well.

The 5 step process to DIY solar panels

  1. Design and size your system based on energy needs.
  2. Purchase your solar equipment (solar panels, inverters, racking)
  3. Install the racking or mounts for the panels.
  4. Connect the solar panels to your racking equipment.
  5. Install a solar inverter.

I really really appreciate any pointers and guidance.
