What are the best things about Houston?

I’m looking to move over from the east coast sometime next year. However, I’ve heard some mixed reviews in terms of living there. From my understanding, it’s not walkable and has a lot of traffic issues and massive sprawling highways. Not crazy about that, but the negative comments seem to be skewed quit heavily to people who don’t have tons of experience with Houston. They see pictures and assume it’s all bad. I’ve heard great things about it too.

To clarify, I need to get the hell out of where I’m at right now and Houston is my top choice for sure. I’m visiting in a few months and hoping to get a better feel, but for now, what are the things about Houston that make it a great place to live? I’d love to hear from people that live there!
