Visiting Houston for 3 days. Recommendations for stay?

Hi, me and a friend are visiting Houston for 3 days for work, but we want to stay in a place with good night life. Preferably with good craft beer. We were thinking downtown or uptown, because we need to stay close to memorial city area (25 min. Drive max) but we want to hear from someone local. Any suggestion?
