New Job – Apartments Near Johnson Space Center?

I'm a new graduate moving to Houston for a job at Johnson Space Center. I currently live quite far from Texas and because of time constraints, I don't think I'll be able to do in-person tours before signing a lease. Does anyone who lives/lived in this area have any recommendations for 1 bdr/1 btr apartments? I've been looking into the Voyager, Regatta, and the Palms. I'm trying to find an apartment with rent under $1400, under $1000 if possible, (but that seems unlikely). I would greatly appreciate any advice y'all have! I've had some awful experiences with previous apartments (bugs/roommates with lots of pets) and am really hoping to avoid that kind of that stress while starting my first real job.
