“Authentic” places in downtown Houston

Recently moved to the med center, tried going to a few places with some friends this weekend. Seems like everywhere is either gentrified, pretentious, and artificially upscale or filled with people that are obnoxious, inconsiderate, and loud. What are places that are tolerable to visit?
