Any premed students/people working in medicine or healthcare here?

I’m currently a premed student at UH and I’m really interested in finding research or volunteering opportunities, but I’m curious to know what things people would recommend. I’m doing hours at Ben Taub and Methodist right now but I hate the private hospital atmosphere… are there any options that y’all would suggest that wouldn’t put me volunteering to run errands for a receptionist? I absolutely love Ben Taub though.
