Big Katy Wine & Food Festival Returns Just in Time for Spring
The annual Katy Sip N Stroll benefitting local charity The Ballard House returns for its 23rd edition on Saturday, April 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. (VIP ticket holders get early entry at 5 p.m.) It’s at The ARK by Norris, located at 21402 Merchants Way in Katy. Tickets are $65 for general admission and $95 for VIPs, who get access to the Celebrity Cruises VIP Lounge with exclusive food selections, premium wines, a swag bag and the “big glass.” Tickets can be purchased online.
The festival beneficiary, The Ballard House, offers no-cost housing for patients and their families who are receiving treatment for a life-threatening illness in the Greater Houston area. To date, the Katy Sip N Stroll has raised over $280,000 for the cause.
Attendees can look forward to a whole lot of food and drink tastings. Combined, there are over 250 wines, craft beers and spirits and more than 35 food tasting stations. Each of the food purveyors are also up for culinary award consideration. The tasty bites being served include chicken and sausage gumbo from BB’s Tex-Orleans, chicken pot pie from Dish Society, Frozen Foie Gras Lollipop from HTX Nitro Creamery, grilled ahi tuna over Brussels sprouts with poblano apple and cucumber from Pearl & Vine and hamachi kosho — yellowtail with tomato oil, serrano salt, fried garlic, cucumber and ponzu — from Tobiuo.
There are artisan vendors, too, as well as a wine pull, tequila lounge and “Party Wagon” Raffle. Live entertainment this year — on two different stages — is by Kristen Hart and Shang & Byron’s 2Man Band.
The organizers, Food & Vine Time, are also still taking applications for volunteers. Duties may include helping with the event setup, pouring drinks, serving food or post-event clean-up (which also serves as congenial R&R time with fellow organizers and volunteers).
