My renewed car registration expires the same month and year I renewed it. Is this normal?

I was 2 years late on my vehicle registration renewal and today the day came that I was pulled over for it. I immediately took the day off to take care of it. Inspection, Tax Office, etc. Came home and put it on and it expires this month 04/22. The same exact month I have renewed. Is this normal? Was there a mistake? Am I being punished for being late?
