Where To Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2022 In Houston

Looking for gold at the end of a rainbow? Would you settle for green beer, Irish stew and live bagpipe performances? Houston-area bar and restaurant owners are getting out the green decor and serving up festive shindigs in honor of Saint Patrick’s namesake holiday. Most events start on March 17, and a few extend into the weekend too. May your heart be full and your glass be equally so, this month and always.

Axelrad, 1517 Alabama: The outdoor beer garden at this midtown bar is practically custom-designed for holiday shenanigans. On March 17, gather your crew and relax at the picnic tables, lay back in the hammocks or wander about people-watching. Sip on craft beer and pair with Italian eats from neighboring Luigi’s Pizzeria. The fun includes a screening of The Boondock Saints and a holiday-themed vegan soap debut by local company Pop Soap.

Bobcat Teddy’s Ice House, 2893 White Oak: This Heights weekend party starts at noon on St. Patrick’s Day and runs through 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 20. Festivities include live bagpipe music, crawfish from Bagzz of Bugzz and lots of green beer. Visit the event page for more information.

Brennan’s of Houston, 3300 Smith: Soak up the celebrations at this upscale Creole kitchen with limited-time cocktails. Most cost $14 and are available through March 31. Choose from the Irish Trinity made with Irish Mist Honey, Jameson Cold Brew and Bailey’s Irish Cream, Smokey Old Fashioned with Stolen Smoked Rum, barrel aged bitters, orange, Bada Bing Cherry and mint, Silkie & Sleek Old Fashioned with Silkie Dark Irish Whiskey, black walnut bitters, Bada Bing Cherry and burnt orange rind, and the Courtyard Swizzle ($15) that combines bourbon, absinthe, lime, sugar, mint and two kinds of bitters.

DR Delicacy, 4120 Directors Row, Suite A: Elevate festivities with a special deal from a local luxury foods purveyor known for truffles, caviar and other imports. From March 14 through 19, most caviar is 15% off; use code STP2022 at checkout. The deal is also available in the store. Griff’s Irish Pub, 3416 Roseland: Take part in the 57th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival with live entertainment from Irish dancers and bagpipers, face painters and nine bands on two stages. Indulge with green beer, Jameson and corned beef and cabbage. Festivities start at 1 p.m. with tickets on sale $10 through March 14 and $15 through March 17. Hopdoddy Burger Bar, multiple locations: This Austin-based, fast-casual burger spot is known for craft ingredients — and playful specials. For March, order the Shepherd’s Pie Poutine. The decadent dish includes hand-cut fries smothered in Jameson-braised pot roast vegetables, white cheddar cheese, a pasture-raised egg and fried rosemary. Get it from March 16 through 20 for dine-in and to-go. 

Irish Pub Kenneally’s , 2111 South Shepherd: Head to this decades-old family business for a classic Irish party beginning at noon on March 17. There is no cover until 3 p.m. The fun includes live music by The Monicas and bagpipers, green beer, Irish stew and Guinness bread, and pizza by the slice.

You can also order the pub’s Guinness bread to go. Place orders by Monday, March 14 and pick up at the pub on Wednesday, March 16 after 3 p.m. Only cash is accepted and it costs $15 for the small and $25 for the large. McGonigel’s Mucky Duck, 2425 Norfolk: Purchase tickets in advance to enjoy the holiday bash at this longstanding Irish pub in Montrose known for elevated pub grub, an extensive bar list including rare and collectible Irish, Scottish and American whiskeys and stellar musical performances. There is live music starting at 4 p.m. with artists such as Piper Jones, Ulla and Ed Miller and Rich Brotherton. Reserved indoor seating is already sold out, but outside general admission and live-stream tickets for watching on YouTube are available for $30 each. Molly’s Pub, multiple locations: There’s a location of this prolific bar for just about every reveler looking for fun on March 17. Order green beer and traditional bites such as Irish stew, shepherd’s pie and corned beef. Expect entertainment, too, including bagpipers, Irish dancers and more.

Penny Whistle Pub, 1625 Richmond: Stake out space on the bar’s well-appointed patio and soak up a weekend of festivities. Specials begin at 2 p.m. on March 17 and run through 11:59 p.m. on March 20, and include green beer, green jello shots, bagpipers, live music, Irish stew and more.  

Pier 6 Seafood & Oyster House, 113 6th Street: Squint long and hard enough and you might be able to spot Ireland from the spacious waterfront patio in San Leon. Okay, probably not, so instead turn your attention to the patio party on March 17. The event includes a DJ, Cajun shrimp boil, green beer and specials on Guinness and Jameson. Pimlico Irish Pub, 810 Waugh: Head just west of downtown for a 21+ St. Patrick’s Day festival beginning at noon on March 17. Details include two bands, barbecue, swag, green beer and more. Return on Saturday, March 19 for a Saint Patrick’s-themed artisan craft market and pet adoption event. It is family-friendly and there will be live music. Reserve 101, 1201 Caroline: Choose from several select experiences this month at the midtown bar popular for exclusive spirit selections. First, the Flight of the Month for March features four Teeling Irish Whiskey pours: Small Batch, Single Grain, Single Pot Still and Single Malt. Visit on March 17 for the flight in addition to a variety of featured cocktails. Extend the celebrations by returning on Tuesday, March 22 for a VIP Teeling Tasting inside moody, Dublin-inspired, semi-private space The Phoenix Parlor. 

Saint Arnold Brewing Company, 2000 Lyons: The annual St. Patrick’s Day shindig at Houston’s most iconic brewery offers a slew of attractions. In addition to special yet-to-be-announced beer selections, guests can dig into corned beef and cabbage and Irish beef stew served in a sourdough bread bowl. Entertainment comes in the form of live music from The Tomfooligans from 4 to 9 p.m. and the infamous Donegal Beard Growing Competition at 7 p.m. Souvenirs include a commemorative beer glass and opportunities for keepsakes from caricature artist Jonathan Sorrells. Taco Cabana, multiple locations: Tex-Mex and Ireland may not have a lot in common, but that won’t stop revelers from tucking into a sweet deal at this taco franchise. Order the astonishingly green Leprechaun Margarita for $3 through March 30 at all restaurant locations. It gets its color from blending menu favorites Mango and Blue Curaçao margaritas. Offset the booze with tacos, nachos, quesadillas and more.

The Nash, 1111 Rusk: As luck would have it, happy hour is available all night on St. Patrick’s Day and this hip downtown restaurant and bar. Deals include $3 draft beers, $7 craft cocktails, $5 wines by the glass and a variety of shareable bar bites for $5 each. 

Traveler’s Table, 520 Westheimer: Feast on Irish-inspired dishes in the heart of Montrose on St. Patrick’s Day. Choose from the Irish Oysters Kilpatrick with bacon, Irish cheddar, Guinness, worchestire, olive oil, salt and parsley that are $16 for a half dozen and $30 for a dozen; Guinness Glazed New York Strip with a Guinness-Jameson demi-glace and served with whipped potatoes, caramelized onions, sauteed spinach and arugula and compound whiskey butter for $30 and finish with sticky toffee pudding sweetened with Guinness-coffee caramel, whipped cream cheese and accompanied by vanilla ice cream for $13.
